Vittra's International pre-schools and schools are meeting places with a positive and open atmosphere. We believe that children and teenagers with good language skills and an increased understanding of different cultures will have greater opportunities in life. Aside from how we work each day at Vittra, in our Vittra International schools you will find educators that speak both English and Swedish and where we work hard to give each child an extra international perspective. In addition to the five promises that already exist in our Vittra schools we also work with a special Vittra International sixth promise as well.
Vittra gives every individual the opportunity to be equipped for study and work in an international environment.
Children develop effective bilingualism in English and Swedish while experiencing and creating international contacts through networks and exchange programmes abroad.
We also work with 3 key words that we like to feel permeate through everything we do; Networks, Skills and Language
Networks:
Networks are not just for adults to build! Even for the younger ages we can aim to create networks that can then help create an understanding of how people in the world live. This is so that the children and students in our Vittra schools are curious about the world and prepared to head out in to it with an increased feeling of confidence and reassurance. By creating global awareness we feel that we can help nurture a feeling of commitment and solidarity both inside and outside of the school building.
Skills:
Looking at knowledge, attitudes, learning, creativity and problem solving. It is important that we can adapt "international" skills to the child's level, whatever age they may be, and communicate with the child upon this basis. In part we do this by using real life and actual problems as opposed to using made up examples that have little if any relationship to reality.
Language:
We see languages as a means of creating an international environment at a school or pre- school, not just as a goal in itself. By using a language immersion method and a variety of communication skills we feel that we can give every child in our care extra tools to explore the world and to gain an increased multi-cultural awareness.
